What this study does
The study combines sedimentology, palaeoenvironmental proxies, chronology and archaeological evidence to reconsider the timing of shoreline and basin changes around the Büyük Menderes delta and Lake Bafa.
Main finding
The combined evidence supports an earlier development of Lake Bafa than some previous archaeological reconstructions, illustrating the value of integrating geological and archaeological chronologies.
When this paper may be useful
