Temperature and precipitation variability in eastern Anatolia: Results from independent component analysis of Lake Van sediment data spanning the last 250 kyr BP
Zeki Bora Ön, M. Sinan Özeren · Quaternary International 514, 119–129 (2019)
What this study does
The study applies independent component analysis to Lake Van proxy data to extract statistically independent environmental signals and interprets them in terms of regional temperature and precipitation variability.
Main finding
Temperature variability broadly follows large-scale glacial–interglacial patterns, while the precipitation component highlights regional hydroclimate behaviour that is not always synchronous with temperature, including changes across MIS stages and abrupt events.
When this paper may be useful
- Blind source separation in palaeoclimate records
- Independent component analysis of μXRF/geochemical series
- Long Quaternary hydroclimate reconstruction
