Spectral Features of 250 kyr Long Lake Van Sediments: Milankovitch Cycles and Their Harmonics
Zeki Bora Ön, M. Sinan Özeren, Sena Akçer-Ön, M. Namık Çağatay · Geological Bulletin of Turkey 60(4), 471–488 (2017)
What this study does
The study applies Lomb–Scargle spectral analysis to unevenly sampled palaeoclimate time series from Lake Van and evaluates periodicities against expected orbital and millennial-scale climate cycles.
Main finding
The spectra contain signals associated with Milankovitch-band variability and harmonics, as well as shorter Holocene periodicities; the analysis illustrates how irregularly sampled sediment records can be examined in the frequency domain.
When this paper may be useful
